The Wondermachine (English)

The Wondermachine is a collaboration between dev.kitchen and ReverWERK. Together, we want to create the best art discovery experience for the cultural sector.

A new art experience for everyone

Imagine being able to find new artworks online based on the information from a particular artwork.

In this way, you build your own story with works you have never seen before — for example, artworks in the same area, made by the same artist, or commissioned by the same client.

Maybe you want to wander through works in the same style, similar materials, or from the same year. Or how about visually wandering through periods, materials, and locations.

For museums, individual artists, collections, and collectors

That is what we want to create! The idea is inspired by a website from 2006 made by Peet and Mannschaft commissioned by SKOR.

The idea is that we will make this available as a place for a great many artworks, but also potentially to connect many collections to one another. That is called a federated artmachine and will be one of our next projects.

But first we are creating databases with APIs that are open for everyone to use, and on top of that, the possibility to create your own graphical interface.

As an example, we are creating a fantastic web interface that makes the most of the Dwaalmachine experience.

For museums, individual artists, collections, and collectors

This project is useful for online museums, collections across different locations, artists and their works and projects, as well as collaborating cultural institutions.

Our goal is to keep everything open, safe, and transparent. We truly believe this can become something really great. The SKOR website already showed a glimpse of it, and we want to make it available to everyone.

This proposal was realized by Dev-Kitchen and Peet.

Open, for everyone: large and small, commercial and public

The next steps are to make the project open source and offer it in such a way that it can be deployed on the most common hosting platforms. Our goal is for the Wondermachine to be able to connect with other organizations and cultural institutions, so that the wonder experience can be used to its fullest extent.

In terms of user experience, we are adding new and exciting ways to interact, discover, and connect with the story behind each artwork. Think of historical context, personal history, and publicly available information sources.

If you want, I can also make this into a smoother, more promotional English version suitable for a website.

Next step: funding

We are currently seeking funding for the next step in our process: adding the flexibility to connect independent graphical interfaces, such as websites and apps, to the Wondermachine. In addition, we are developing a standard graphical interface to demonstrate the power of the Wondermachine.
